First Grade Science Project - Success Academy - Mealworm Dioramas
For the past couple weeks in science, the scholars of Success Academy have been learning all about mealworms! They have studied anatomy, their environmental preferences, and their life cycle. For this project, scholars should create a diorama featuring both a detailed mealworm and all the appropriate features of an ideal mealworm habitat. The goal of this project is for scholars to showcase their knowledge of mealworm. The directions are as follows: start with shoebox, cover inside with construction paper, attach various components of a mealworm's preferred environment, design and affix your life-like mealworm within the diorama.

Klara's Birthday and Literacy Event at Success Academy
Yesterday was Grandmother's birthday which we have celebrated today on November 14th, 2012. Happy Birthday, Grandma! Grandma made Korean soup (tyui) and brought fresh lettuce leaves (syumi) and Korean fish which we ate by wrapping rice and salads in lettuce leaves. It reminded me of my grandfather Konstantin who loved this dish. Aron was not feeling well but he was happy to drink with us his juice while we drank Sangria. After that we had cheesecake with berries and lit 6 candles (equals Grandmother's 61 :-) ). Klara and Aron blew the candles together.
After lunch I went to Allyson's Literacy Event at the Success Academy. Basically there were several stations in different classrooms where parents were told about programs and expectations of children's progress in writing and reading. I was able to see Allyson's class and Allyson among her friends. I was glad that Allyson had been happy and had fit the school culture. I noticed that Allyson was very hyper in the classroom. I'm not surprised that she has been having yellow and red lines. I hope that Allyson will be able to adjust and become more calm in classroom. I talked to Ms. Monte, the Assistant Teacher. She mentioned that school chooses best books for children. I said to her that I love Allyson's Just Right Book Baggie and feel happy when it gets refilled.

Tomorrow I'm off.
Aron has been sick these days. He is very sad when he is not feeling well. Allyson was sick too but she feels better now. I feel so bad too when kids are sick. I'm off tomorrow and want to take Aron to the doctor. It's going to be a mixed visit of sick and well visit as I want Dr. Newman to take Aron's weight, check his development as well. I hope it will be all right. At 4 pm I have to attend Allyson's literacy even at the school. I'm looking forward to see Allyson's classmates and how she is doing academically.
